ABOUT ULSTER PARK WINES
Ulster Park Wines is a small family owned vineyard nestled in Auburn, South Australia - the Paris end of the Clare Valley.
An award winning dairy farm in its past life, Ulster Park is surrounded by lush, verdant, rolling hills, and with an average rainfall of 500mm/annum - the perfect climate for producing the best quality, dry grown grapes in this world renowned wine region.
Ulster Park has a proud heritage of farming, and is still run as a family farm today by Michael & Sharryn Smith, and their two sons. Originally a dairy, Pat English, and husband Hamilton, aka ‘Stingles', toiled on this land for many years, living in his parents’ house, the current bluestone homestead. When Michael & Sharryn first married and bought Ulster Park in 1994, they were entranced by Pat's many vibrant stories and historical knowledge of the farm. We dubbed her the 'Matriarch' of Ulster Park, and she wore the moniker with great honour. The newlyweds developed their property and planted a vineyard, which was to produce premium grapes sought after by local wineries. This inspired them to bottle their own juice, and with careful attention to detail enlisted the winemaking prowess of the best winemaker in the district. What would they call the resultant beverage, which inspired relaxed, fun days filled with laughter, bonhomie and sunshine? The 'Matriarch' of course! Sharryn and Michael spent many days enjoying one with Pat, and their friends and family, overlooking the beautiful vistas that surround their property and imbibing a delicious glass of shiraz, with its namesake.
Established in 1998, our flagship shiraz, "Matriarch" (TM 2006), was first launched in 2004, embodying all the flavours of our unique terroir. It is a full bodied, dry grown Clare Valley shiraz, exhibiting elegant plum and spice flavours, with hints of French oak, and a soft lengthy finish. Desirable to any palate, and making it an easy drinking wine for any occasion. We pride ourselves on the fact that our wine is of the highest quality and affordable.
2020 saw the launch of our 2017 and 2018 vintage shiraz range. If you love a dry grown, easy drinking, full bodied shiraz at an affordable price, please proceed to our shop.
In 2017 we released our Pinot Gris to great anticipation. This fruity, dry, Clare Valley white wine speaks for itself, and was sold out within 2 months of its release. Please proceed to our shop for the current vintage Pinot Gris "1867", or go to contacts for enquiries.
Our 2019 release of the glamorous "Fernilee" Sparkling NV is a celebration of 25 years of marriage, and also a celebration of the classic sparkling varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Elegant beading, strawberries and cream aroma with honey suckle citrus flavours. We have been bowled over by its success. An elegant reminder of the beautiful and historic Fernilee Lodge in Kensington, South Australia, where so many happy, young couples celebrated their Wedding Receptions.
In 2021, our 'Three Faithfuls' Rose' was released. Strawberry, Raspberry with Turkish Delight and Rose Petal across the palate this Grenache Rose' is a stand out. Named as a tribute to all the Winery and Vineyard dogs who keep us company while we toil away producing fine wine.
Ulster Park Wines Cellar Door opened in November 2019, at 11 Main North Road, Auburn, South Australia in the RSL Building. After 3 years of great local support and growing interest in our wines from visitors to the region. We purchased our new Cellar Door at 23 Main North Rd, Auburn, South Australia. Just down the road! After settlement in January 2023 and a few renos we opened 23 as a Commercial Space with 3 shops and our Cellar Door. Opening hours Friday-Sunday 12-7pm, long weekends and some school holidays.
